K3 - The Kangaroos

The Kangaroos kindergarten class is designed for children 5 – 6 years old. This section is the last kindergarten class before the children enter elementary school. In Kangaroos the children work on improving their fluency in literacy, their comprehension of numeracy, and begin to hone the study habits that will benefit them as they graduate into elementary school.

Circle Time
We start everyday by gathering our kindergarten classes together for our circle time. Circle time is an opportunity for the children to warm up with dance and movement, while practicing songs based on our thematic units.

Learning Time:
While every aspect of our day is a learning time, we use this opportunity to review our theme and teach our unique bilingual lessons. The work ranges from phonics and literacy to mathematics and science.

Snack:
An excellent time to model responsible behavior, learn a healthy wash up routine, and proper table manners.

Outdoor Education:
As often as possible we like to include physical activity within our day. Twice a week this will be a scheduled PE class. The days in the week are used to promote and reinforce the monthly themes. Taking the education outdoors allows us to observe nature for our science class, do practical math and keep the children healthy.

STORY TIME:
We like to wind down our day witha theme based story and readers theater play. This is a great way to encourage reading and story writing. It also allows the children to build a large bank of vocabulary words and grow an appreciation for the written word.

Dismissal:
This point of the day allows the students to develop personal responsibilities by tidying up, packing their homework, and following routines involved in preparing to go home.
